Ed. Journal - 1st Entry of Ed. Journal

The education “tag” starts from the multicultural education class I am taking in spring 2008 and will be continuing since the life journal is a journal of educating and being educated.

Why multicultural education matters?
I am staring blankly to this question for a while multicultural in education is beyond dispute in this mixed culture world.

What is culture?
Culture is not limited by the behavior and product of the people or patterns in people’s life; it is the shared beliefs, feelings and values of a community of people.
From Hiebert, Dimensions of culture:

The misunderstandings of multicultural education or communication are based on ignorance of the beliefs, feelings and values of another culture. The solution is to learn how the other culture works. As a teacher, preparing ourselves as a cross-cultural educator so that when the student in our classroom is from the other culture or minority, teacher won’t show the attitude of “making no sense to us”.

Suppose there is a student in class believes in Jehovah's Witness. The teacher should know the basic religion background of Jehovah’s Witness; have some concept of do’s and don’ts for the classroom activities. If possible, ask the assistant from parents for additional support.

At last, the MCE class is not only for preparing the potential teachers to be sensitive for the students from different cultures, but also preparing the curriculum with a global perspective.

Something warning myself

The other day, we were talking about a bad example of preaching, which reminded me some experience.


I am writing them down now, for the warning to myself in future.


(These preachings are not wrong, it's just not proper for new believers or non-believers )

It's quite popular in China's preaching and got a lot of this kind of preaching while I was there.


This kind of threatens as a preaching is not helpful as I felt.

Faith is for happiness and joy, not threaten nor warning.


Faith is the path towards best choice in life, not a worry for the future Hell or Heaven.


Faith should beyond any religions , beyond judgement, beyond curse, beyond fear.

No more fear but joy.

"As a Christian, you should do this; you are not supposed to do that; …"


Then rule number 1, rule number 2...


Shhhhhhhh….!

Isn't faith supposed to be freedom and joy? Where are those rules coming from?


There should be no rules in any faith and if the truth is true, the Power from the truth will bring the righteousness, without any written rules.


PLUS, human don't like rules, human desires freedom.


With righteousness and wisdom, freedom is what we get from faith.

No more rules but righteousness.

Sample 3

Knocking doors everyday…asking "are you interested in XXX? "


Annoying? Yes. Feel Rebellious? Yes.

Psychologically, there should be an exact number of inviting someone to join a group.


I say 2-3 times, but it should be various depending on people and relationship.


I had this annoying experience from one religion group long time ago and at that time I was just confused and uncomfortable, as a stranger and non-believer.


As a warning to myself, I should not be too hospitality, no matter how strongly I am desired to share the joy of faith with friends.


Calm down and pray are always another super natural way to knock the door.

No more over-annoying but praying.

My father left a message in my blog on QQ (QQ the same like MSN/Live and popular in China).

He said he miss me and hope I know how to protect myself without him. It seems in his eyes I am will never grow up.

Tears....we never talked to each other so often, but we both understand the father-daughter relationship is full with love and understanding.

He is the guy would like to spend more time in career than family, and would like to be silent instead of saying something romantic or meaningless.

Traditional Chinese father and daughter is this way…But I know he loves me, though he never said so.

What a lovely dad, what a meaningful message, what a great distance for this father-daughter relationship to grow...

Looking forward to the Holy Sunday…:)

Rain for a reason

It was at noon, on Manoa campus, I was walking from class to library as usual.


Rain just polled down from no where, and all of the sudden.


My habit of bringing an unmbrella seems useful now, though it hasn't been using for a while.




There was a lady walking the same direction as I did.


"Go and share the umbrella with her!" Yes, why not?


So I step up, and put my umbrella on her head and shoulder, with the sweetest smile to show my friendly intention.


Thanks, she said.


My pleasure! Where are you heading for?


Library. And you? Thank you for the umbrella.


Oh, me too! I did nothing.




Nothing great happening, nor did I share any gospel with her.


But it's a joyful story, in this "who cares?" world, for Jesus does cares.

Holy Spirit Retreat

Everything starts from the retreat. Being in presence of God and sinking myself in the light of Heaven are such a cheerful experience to do as a baby Christian.




I used to wondering why God hides from human, but now, while He is disclosing His smiling face to me, I understand that it's not Him hiding from us, it's us running away from Him!




It starts from Holy Spirit Retreat, starts from being baptized by Holy Spirit, starts from the truth revealing.

Fun in Chinese series finally finished

Hope the publisher will approve the book soon.
We were told it would take forever to review and marketing.
Should have suggetsted Hazel to publish at lulu.com.
Didn't do that for the name of the company sounds like my own company, or my relatives'.

It's always fun to work, learn, have fun and get paid. Too bad I finish the work fast than we thought. =(
